Creating an Owl

Owls are by far my most popular sculpture design. As a result of this I've made several hundred, so I've had quite a bit of practice! 

I put a lot of time an effort into all of my work as it's important to me to try and capture the essence of the creature I'm sculpting. I want them to look believable as if they could move or take flight any minute. I've studied the different owl breeds that I carve to identify distinguishing traits. In theory you should be able to identify the breed just from the raw sculpture. The details I add by burning and staining just add an extra layer of realism.

My most popular designs are the Tawny Owls and Barn Owls. I have also made Eagle owls, Snowy Owls and Little Owls.
