Tall, graceful, and elegant. If you’ve even been lucky enough to see these creatures marching across the plains of Africa you’ll know how unbelievably real they are.
This sculpture stands a good 7 feet tall and was carved from one solid piece of timber over several days. Once I was happy with the shape, I sanded the whole piece leaving the mane and tail hairs with a nice fury texture. I then carefully burned the patten and touched up the edges with the sander to create the crisp edges of that distinctive giraffe design.
As with all my sculptures the finished piece was treated with a wood preserver and oiled to keep it in good condition for as long as possible. Something similar would be in the region of £3000.
