About Me

Welcome , my name is Sally Wibrew (aka Sally May,) I am an artist and sculptor based in Norfolk. I originally trained as a 3D artist. I’ve now swapped my computer for a chainsaw and make hand carved wooden sculptures.

I’ve always loved creating things and being in the great outdoors so finding a way I can combine those two things seemed like a natural progression.

I studied Animation and Computer Visualisation at University, after completing an MA in Animation and Sound design I went on to work at Norwich University of the Arts. Teaching students in a range of creative disciplines from traditional life drawing to advanced 3D graphics.

After I was made redundant during the recession I decided it was time to try something new. Being a passionate rock climber I’d spent a fair bit of time around some friends who worked as Tree Surgeons so I thought I’d take a gamble and do my NPTC chainsaw ticket. I’ve never looked back!

I worked as a tree surgeon for about a year, refining my chainsaw technique before I bumped into my now good friend Luke Chapman at a show. He introduced me to the world of chainsaw carving which has proven to be a fantastic opportunity, as I am now able to combine my new found chainsaw skills with my art and design background.

So that’s where I am now, doing a bit of tree surgery and pushing myself to create ever more impressive chainsaw sculptures, constantly trying to push the boundaries of traditional chainsaw craft and create some truly unique works of art.
